Water management in shared gardens

At MLK Concept, we care about responsible water management, which is why we use an ancestral, autonomous, ecological and economical irrigation system: ollas.

We design customized training courses focused on water management, through practical workshops, to help you save water in your vegetable gardens.

Ollas are unglazed clay pots used for underground plant irrigation. They are buried in the soil near plants, with their top exposed, and filled with water. The porous clay of the ollas allows water to slowly seep into the soil, ensuring efficient and economical irrigation for plants.

The olla irrigation system is a traditional irrigation method that can be useful for saving water and maintaining a regular water supply for plants, especially in drought-prone areas. Ollas are often used to water crops such as vegetables, herbs and flowers.

To use an olla irrigation system, you simply fill the pot with water, and the water is gradually diffused into the soil around the plant. This allows the roots to be constantly hydrated, avoiding water waste through evaporation and runoff.

In summary, the olla irrigation system is an ecological and efficient method for plant irrigation, especially in low rainfall conditions.

MLK Concept has collaborated with the city of La Roche-sur-Yon and Roche Agglomération to implement a program for managing the use of ollas in all the city's vegetable gardens, thus contributing to more efficient water use.
